No Blood Shots... No Strike!

It turns out that my Dr. actually wanted more tests done (EKG and urinalysis) then I originally told Katz, so unfortunately she couldn't do my blood work last night :( (She did bring a butterfly needle, 2 tubes and her tourniquet (yes, I googled that word so I'd spell it correctly!) She was so prepared, I was kinda dissapointed that we couldn't do the blood work then... not to mention since I spent the whole day fasting for it also! D'oh!) Oh well, it took me about 30 minutes to get all the tests done at a downtown CLS lab this morning and the lab technician was extremely friendly and accomidating! (What a pleasant surprise!) I go for my follow up exam with my Dr. to discuss the findings on Monday. So far, all the signs point to "I am normal" LOL

News on the transit strike was released today that there will now be NO strike at all, as "The City and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 583 have reached a tentative memorandum of settlement" . Hooray! I hope the Union got what they wanted! I don't think their demands were all that outrageous, so I hope they City finally saw the light. Gotta love City politics!

24 hour STRIKE

So, it turns out that the Calgary Transit has decided to go on a "24 hour Strike" meaning we will be without their services from 12:30pm Friday, June 1st till 12:30 Saturday, June 2nd. I think this means they will be back up and running Saturday evening. I guess I'll wait and see. Sounds like a funny thing to do, but I guess they are trying to make a point! (Since I get this Friday off, it doesn't affect me much, yet! ... I'm still not looking forward to arriving to work with helmet head from riding my bike to work, if it comes to that!!!)

In other news, due to the breathing issues I've been experiencing, I need to get some blood work done. I mentioned this to my friend Katz (who is a very experienced phlebotimist) and she offered to take my blood tonight, in my own house! She's going to bring the needle and tubes to my place tonight and take it for me! How cool is that? I will be sure to have Collin take a picture or two of her in action! (I'm kinda nervous! lol)
This sure beats dealing with the phlebotomists at the other Calgary Labs I've been too, some are just not nice!
But this also means no food or drink (fasting) for at least 10 hours before she takes my blood work... I have to stop eating in 30 minutes! I already ate my lunch and it's only 10:30am! LOL

Vacation is over :(

I'm back from my glorious 11 days off! However, I think I'm more stressed out now then I was before I left though! LOL
I don't know what's wrong with me, but I think I've got some sort of hyper-tension or high blood presure going on... because before I go to sleep every night (while I was on vacation also) I have to take a lot of big deep breaths before my body feels settled. I am making a doctors appointment today because this issue has been worrying me for some time now. Considering I'm a reasonably active and healthy person, it concerns me that I'm having heart issues. (Is it a heart issue, or a breathing issue??? I don't get it completely!) My sister warned me that my Dad and my Grandmother on my Mom's side both have high blood pressure (as does my Brother!) so she said it might just be that... Genetics! Booo!

Back to work today, feels weird to have to get up so early. I'm sure I'll be back to the old routine in no time!

(PS... I already miss my niece and nephew and Sister and Brother-in-law!!!

Vacation is good!

I am on vacation, hence the lack of blogging. Sorry!!!

My Vacation has been great so far! I've had a few sunny days already and even managed to get slightly burnt one day! (lovely! no, really, it is :) Today we are going shopping with both my niece and nephew, which my sister says is "always a challenge"! Let's see how I handle this one... :) Since they are not my kids, I'm sure it'll be fine!

I'm a Kameleon!

I taught a bead class last night, and as I entered the store I noticed that Suzie had gotten some new jewellery to display in her showcase... I took a closer look and discovered that it was sterling silver jewellery with interchangeable jewels.
I couldn't help myself... I broke down and bought a pendant with 3 jewel inserts ("jewel pops" as they call them.) It's so awesome! I can't wait to buy a ring too!!! (Oh no, another thing to obsess about! LOL)

Gearing up for Vacation!!!

I'm getting really excited for my vacation! Only 2 more days of work, then I get a couple days to pack and prepare for my flight! :) Yay! I really think my body will thank me for this down time.

Also, I'm excited to help my sister prepare Paige's birthday party! (She turns 5 on May 18th, but I'll be getting there May 20th, so she decided she could have a late birthday party in order for her auntie to be there to celebrate too! What a doll!) It will be so much fun!

I also can't wait to do yoga everyday with Paige, and to help Noly play with his trains (or whatever he's into now)! Just spending time with my niece and nephew are way up there on my priorities list of things to do on this vacation! (Oh, also I'm going to bring my kit of beads... and maybe make a few necklaces... I've been really eager to make some projects for ME!)

Mother's Day

How to NOT pop-a-Wheelie on a Mountain Bike

I don't think Collin read this before he attempted his first (and ONLY) wheelie on his new mountain bike tonight.
This literally happened 1 minute out of the store.


It happened so fast... he lifted his front tire, and immediately realized he had pulled up to hard! His back tire went completely around... with his hands still holding the handlebars and his feet still firmly clipped into his pedals *WHAM*, he hit his back real f*cking hard on the cement!!! I thought he might be paralyzed! (Seriously, I've never seen him in pain like that!) After the inital shock and me getting a bit upset, I was pissed at him!




Why don't guys ever grow up? Instead they think and act like they are 13 years old all the time???

Cracked out!

I went to the Chiropractor this am, despite feeling a bit better when I woke up. (I still have a feeling this neck pain won't go away until I get the root of the problem addressed!) I already feel a tonne better, and I know after a few more visits I'll feel 100% again.
I find it so amazing that your body can still function when it's so out of alignment!

10 more days till I fly out to see my sister and her family! I can't wait! Hopefully it's not raining spring showers for my whole visit... but at this point, I really don't even care if it did! RnR never sounded so good to me, then right now!

Just another Tuesday

So, I found out today that the Union and the City are going into another "talk" today and if they can't come to any agreement, then the looming strike will take effect in 72 hours... Ugh! I really hope NOT! I hate when my schedule get's screwed with!

But I also found out that due to my age, I am entitled to another week of vacation time! (Gotta love it when they revise the vacation practices and it actually benefits you!! :)
Speaking of vacation, less then 2 more weeks till I fly out to see my sister and her family! I can't wait! (Jenny, you'll have to set me up with a chiro. appointment while I'm there!)

All talk, no action... YET!

Well, despite the fact that the transit decided 84.3% to strike, they have not announced when or what they are going to do yet. So as far as I know now... I'll have transit this week. (phew) But I'm still not holding my breath on this issue. I hope the City can throw up a deal that the Calgary Transit Union will agree with and we can forget about this whole mess!

Enough about that... yesterday Collin and I went rollerblading down at the Rivervalley. It was great! Beautiful weather to be out enjoying the outdoors! It feels so good to be active on Sunday's again. (Last fall, Collin and I would go for a hike every Sunday and I'm really missing that!) It sure feels like summer is here to stay!!!!! :)

on STRIKE!

The Calgary Transit voted 84.3% in favor of job action last night. Meaning that possibly as soon as Monday, I will have no ride to work. I am not sure exactly how I'll get there yet... or how I'll get home in time to make it to my 7:15pm fitness class! (I think I'll be calling for some subs!)

Luckily the vast majority of my co-workers are off on a field trip or on vacation next week, so it'll be nice and quiet on my floor. And no one will even notice me wander in uber late. (I doubt I'll be the only one showing up late!)

I don't understand why the City won't just pay their employees what they are worth!?! I mean, Alberta is the land of milk and honey, I can't believe the City has allowed this to happen over a measly 1% salary increase per year! (The union wanted 15% over 3 years, and the City would only approve 12%)

Friggen Technology

Last night Collin spend an hour talking to the support line at Link-sys (our wireless internet manufacturer) to figure out why the heck we cannot get the thing to hook up properly on my new computer. (Durnign the time he was on he phone, he missed about 90%% of 'Smallville', which was a kick-ass episode by the way!)
Hopefully we figure it all out tonight. Collin thinks we are missing some software or something... I honestly have no clue.. I just want to use my new computer to surf the net! and sooner then later!!!

(PS... thanks for lending me the thumb drive piscesgirl74, I have finally managed to transfer all 15+ GB of data from my old puter to my new one :)
