Insight from a movie

... this quote was brought up to me this weekend. It made me laugh because of it's irony!

"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes,
working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. "
- Fight Club, 1999.

There's aways something.

I met a guy last night, his name is Ben. He is a mountain biker just like me! :) He sounded great... and then he mentioned that he works at a bike shop as a tech. Well, ok, that I could handle. Then he mentioned that he took a major pay cut to work there! I asked why and he said because he used to live in Grande Prairie making a lot of money, but also getting himself into a lot of debt (something I've worked very hard to keep myself out of!) buying himself a new truck and motorbike!
(I cannot relate to that sort of irresponsible behavior. I do not want that kind of stress in my life!)

I suggested that we go for a mountain bike ride together anyways because he does seem like fun! I guess time will tell.

UPDATE:
Ben and I met up on Tuesday after work and went biking in Fish Creek. He had never been to Fish Creek before, so I got tot play tour guide a bit! (Kinda hard considering I don't even know the trails that that good myself.) We actually had a really good time! We got along great, and he was very friendly! We were out till 9:30 and it was starting to get dark... so we called it a day! He did seem very interested in going out again, and I know I am too!
Yay, a new riding buddy!

Time warp?

Man o Man! My first day back at the gym today, and wowie! I got an eyeful. A woman was wearing (imagine this) a white body suit (shutters) with flourecsent splatter painted designs on it, with a matching balero jacket (perfect for working out in!) and to make it convincingly authentic, the woman wore bright blue leggins underneith! A true spectacle. All I could think as she walked by was "Is she for real?"

Allergic to something!

... I think it's the sun!
Since I got out here (Nanaimo) my body has broken out in these little itchy bumps (hives) that kinda look like little blisters. And after we spent any time out in the sun, it just made it worse! And it seems that only the places that were allowed to be exposed by the sun (ie. 85% of my body!) are affected by this rash! (Worst affected is my chest and arms!)

I am sooo itchy that I woke up early this morning. I couldn't find a comfortable position without becoming insanely itchy in a minute or so. I also felt ill for some odd reason, and I managed to throw up this AM (Very reminiscent of my last trip out here, except this time it wasn't alcohol induced!)

What is wrong with me? Why am I allergic to the sun??? (If that is even infact what is wrong with me. I have been taking extra strength Reactine but it does not seem to take the edge off this itching for one second! Aghhhhhhh!)

Vacation

I've been on holidays since July 17th. I'm in Nanaimo visiting my sister and her family
I'm going to be back home on July 25th, back to work July 26th.

So far we've spent lots of time keeping a 4 year old and a 1.5 year old happy! Which, trust me is a lot harder then it sounds!!!

Both my sister and Ken have both told me, on seperate occasions "Don't have kids!" LOL Sounds like they are both a little burnt out!

Bad sign

Mike has lost points with me. A lot of points!

Last night we talked on the phone, and he was like "Well, if you want to come here, you can!" I said "Well, considering I've already come out to visit you, I think you should come see me!" He said "You're right... how about tomorrow, after I get off work at 6:00 pm" Sure!
... sounds like a plan, right?

Well, It's 10:00 pm now and I still haven't heard from Mike! I wasted my night waiting for him to call! (Well, ok, I didn't exactly wait for him to call... I was on Plenty of Fish all evening talking to other cute boys... hehe)
But seriously, who doesn't even call to say they won't be coming??? Obviously someone that doesn't care about my feelings that much.

What a complete jerk face!

Blades and sharp turns don't mix!

I'm a bit of a hurting unit today. I should not try to compete with a guy on rollerlades! :(
So, I got to Mike's place... he answered the door in a towel!!! LOL He was in the shower, and I guess I was earlier then he expected. He didn't look like I expected at all! He DOES have a full head of hair, but right now it's dyed blonde, so looks light. He tans a lot too, so he's quite dark... and he's self professed to being "part woman" because he likes to primp and such. Not sure if he is my type, but I'm not against trying :)

So, we start on our rollerblade... things are going well... Little do I realize that the trail he's taking me on is WAY too hilly for me! He goes barrel-assing down this one hill, that has 2 sharp turns on. So I think I should be able to make those corners too... and I try following him! Only to fall, hyperextend my right middle fingers, and gouge my right elbow pretty fierce! Grrr.... I was actually quite pissed off about it! We only rollerbladed for maybe 10 minutes and then we went back to his place! Booo.

I brought my bathing suit though and after we iced my wounds, we took a dip in the hot tub. It was nice! I kinda felt like I was on an episode of "Blind Date" LOL

We are planning to see each other again before I leave for a week of holidays. It will be fun I'm sure, but I don't really feel that spark.
I don't think he's "the one" ... :( Boo.

Meeting Mike

I am meeting Mike tonight. We are going rollerblading. I'm kinda nervous! This guy seems different then the other guys...

I initially met Mike off Lava (which does NOT make him different). Since we first met we have talked for over 7 hours on the phone! (Sun 2.5, Mon 3, Tues 1, Wed 1) (which makes him TOTALLY different then the other guys!)

We seem to have a lot in common, and are at the same place in our lives with our careers and personal life. He's 30 and has a commerce degree. He's 6' which is going to be a bit of a shock to me I know! (I haven't gone out with a guy 6' tall for a long time!) It's just so comfortable and easy to talk to Mike. I am sure he feels the same about me! I have no doubt that we are going to get along great!

I will definitely keep you all posted on how it turns out!

PS... oh ya, the ChuckWagon Races last night was great! We had in-field seating, all the food/drink you could stomach and our own personal waitress! Can't beat that! It was so very fun! ....Did I mention I love my job???

Stampede Burn Out

... And it's only Tuesday!
Stampede Kicked off July 7th with the parade.
...Then we started drinking. Lots and Lots of drinking!

And yesterday was the Bullshooters Breakfast at the Westin. Damn, lots of great food, but when we walked into the place the guy at the door yells "Free Shooters for the Ladies!" Is he serious? It's a breakfast! What a great way to start the day! LOL So, me and Ping (the new geologist, a small Asian woman) had a shooter. (I son't think Ping knew what it was!) And we all picked up our first mug of OJ (of course, spiked with Vodka!)
Gotta Love Stampede!

By 11:00am, I was feeling no pain! Drunk before noon? Pretty wild! I've NEVER been drunk before noon before. There's a first for everything!

Then at noon, they loaded all us drunks onto school busses and drove us to Booker's. (Which is on a normal day a seedy bar beside an even seedier hotel) but at Stampede time it becomes a beer tent for the corporates to enjoy beers on company time! (Again, gotta love Stampede!)
I grabbed a chicken burger as soon as we got there! I was drunk and needed food and water to help me recover! I think I had another 2 coolers after that... but then I HAD to stop! I was swimming in free drinks, and it's not like me to turn down free booze! ...But MAN, I am not as young as I used to be!

I left with Mike (a collegue) at 6:00pm. My feet were hurting so bad! All I wanted to do was LAY DOWN! I got home at 6:30... took off my boots, jumped in the shower and fell asleep at 7pm! I was done! I did wake up to the phone around 9:30, but I barely remember what we talked about, I just wanted to sleep! I was also extremely itchy all over my neck and chest last night (allergies?)... I think I will change my sheets tonight to see if that is the problem! You never know!

PS... no more drinking before noon!!!

Tonight it's off to the Rodeo to watch the Chuck Wagon Races! Yee Haw!

Stampede 2006 Kick Off!

What a great weekend! It started off with the Stampede parade on Friday morning. It was a great time, as always... then off to Melrose for some lunch. It was such a sunny day, we decided to head back to my place to cool off a bit and relax. Starla wanted to do some consignment clothes shopping, so we went to Kensington and did that. We picked up Raeleen, and Robin met us at my place and we all went to Original Joe's for dinner. Then back to my place for girl talk and drinks. We weren't really in the mood for standing in line ups so we decided to walk to a near- by pub and check out that scene. It was completely DEAD. On our way back to my place, we saw some guys playing football in the park, so we stopped to talk to them. (see pics from link below) I brought my digital camera... and unfortunately booze and digital cameras don't mix... one of the guys happened to drop my camera, and have a look at how it takes pictures now! Hmmmp. The guy (his name is Colin) said now I need your number so I can take you camera shopping. haha... nice line, but hey, sure! I do need a new camera now so, I gave him my number. I've already talked to him a few times. We were going to make plans for tonight, but I just looked at my schedule and I have to teach tonight! :(
And yesterday I just decided to log in to Lava, and I get messaged from a guy who's profile makes him sound totally conceited! Both Starla and I were completely skeptic.. then he sent me his backstage and I think that's the most excited I've seen Starla in a while. We continued chatting on-line and he suddenly asked "Can we talk on the phone?"
"YES we can!" ... but I had to play it cool and say "Sure!" hehe! So he called me and we talked for 20 minutes... seems like we have a lot in common and we had alot to talk about over the phone! It went well. He said he's call me back later that night, when he was home from his brother's. Well, he did call... and we proceeded to talk for 2.5 hours! DAMN! I haven't had an epic phone call like that for a long time! ESPECIALLY not with a guy! So we are planning to meet up this week sometime! (His name is Mike and he is 31 years old.) I'm quite excited actually!

Note to self:

Don't sit on a patio for an hour at lunch in direct sun exposure, in light, thin capri pants.

Well, I did just such a thing today, and I nearly melted to death (so much sweat beading down my back!). Then when I stood up, I nearly died again because I had sweat so much from my legs that it looked like I had peed my pants!!!!!!
Seriously, if I was not wearing a black top, I would have looked like I just walked out of a wet t-shirt contest! Ha Ha (oh, so embarrassed!)

My sweating is out of control!

Not liking the new blades!

I'm kinda dissapointed by my new rollerblades. They roll really slow! (or so it feels, compared to my old ones) and I just don't feel comfortable in the soft boot technology. I constantly feel like my wheels are travelling slower then my body (hence, I get the tripping sensation) and my shins ache after 10-15 mins of riding in them. Not cool.

I rotated the wheels on the ol' Rollerblades and will take them out for a rip tomorrow. I want to compare the two, side by side and figure out why the old ones go faster! Here's the break down of components:
old skates: Rollerblade Brand, hard boot, Abec 5 (or 7?) bearings, 76mm -78A wheels
new skates: K2's VO2, soft boot, ILQ-9 bearings, 84mm -83A wheels.

The NEW blades should ride wayyy faster then my old ones. The wheels are bigger and harder then on the old blades! And the ILQ-9 technology in the bearings of the new skates is supposed to be more high end then the ABEC's...

I will head off to Sport Mart tomorrow to see what they can do for me. I don't think I want to keep these blades though...

Great weekend!!!

I'm back from my white water rafting trip and camping in Golden, B.C. It was so much fun! There ended up being 17 people at our campsite! It's fun to camp in such a big group! I really miss having that many people around to hang out with!
We had amazing weather! The only rain we got were sun showers! :) Couldn't ask for anything better!
White water rafting on Saturday was great! I've never done it before, and I wanted to get the most out of the experience! I am pretty sure I did! I will be sure to post the pictures as soon as I have the motivation to post them somewhere. :p I even took a swim in the frigid rapids... I don't think I'll do that again. The temperature of the water knocked the wind out of me, and wow, it it ever hard to swim against a current! I got out of the water, and could barely breathe! Exhausted and freezing! Quite the experience, that's for sure!

I got a really nice tan from the weekend too! I want to go back!!!! Next time though, mountain bike trip :)
